March for Our Futures

The science is clear, and the conclusion isindisputable. Climate change is now an existential threat and our futures hangin uncertainty. According to the latest report by the United Nations ClimateChange Secretariat, the world must limit the global temperature rise to 1.5 °Cand achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. Progress has been visible, but slow – infact, destructively slow. Instead of reaching our goal of 1.5 °C we are well onour way to doubling the global temperature, a situation that is extremelyfrightening for humanity.

Distressingly, the scientific community,NASA and the United Nations have warned us that increasing temperatures willchange the world beyond just our physical environment; impacting healthcare, wealth distribution, transportation, energy, food supply and our overallstandard of living. Currently, the Government of Canada refuses to take aresolute stance on climate change and has put forth minimal efforts to accomplishchanges that are necessary to safeguard our futures. This election, the youthneeds to ensure that our leaders hear our voices and remember that this planetmust remain viable for our future generations.

The youth have always been a source ofchange and revolution in our societies. In fact, most recently we’ve seen youthmaking momentous changes in Puerto Rico, Sudan, the Middle East and Hong Kong.If they can do it – so can we! Remember in 1939, young Canadian men and womenmobilized their entire society to fight against the threat of Nazism andfascism, and now in 2019, we must mobilize again to fight climate change andprotect our own futures.

On Friday, September 20th, youth around the world will participate in the Global Climate Strike. We invite you to march with us in the March for Our Futures: Youth Climate March to show our governments, our institutions, our parents, our employers and our fellow Canadians that climate change, our futures and our well-being are not negotiable and we will not stop until we implement profound solutions. This is an opportune time, a month before the federal elections, to make our voices heard. March with us, raise awareness and use your vote to change policies and ultimately change our future.
