Press Release Hult Prize 2018

York University was selected to host a local edition of the HultPrize, the world’s largest student competition for the creation of new socialbusinesses, for the third year in a row. This past week, we saw numerous greatideas which harnessed the power of energy to improve the lives of millions ofpeople around the world. The Hult Prize@ York executive team is happy toannounce the winners of the competition, Team Spark! A team compiled of secondyear business students Angel Huang, Zainab Jangda, Inaara Hasmani and Kevin Wu.They presented an initiative called “Flow”, which harnesses the energy of humanmigration and wowed the judges through their creativity and idea feasibility. Theannual Hult Prize awards one million dollars in start-up funding to the team ofstudents that develops the most radical and breakthrough idea to solve one ofour world’s toughest social challenges.

TeamSpark, the winner of our intra-campus event will automatically advance tocompete in one of fifteen regional finals happening around the world nextMarch.  One winning team from each hostcity will then move onto a summer business incubator, where participants willreceive mentorship, advisory and strategic planning as they create prototypesand set-up to launch their new social business. A final round of competition will be hosted in September 2018, where thewinning team is to be awarded the $1,000,000 prize.

EveryYork University student still has an opportunity to move on to the next round.
